VISITING ARTIST
Visiting Artist - Arno de Villiers
During his teenage years Arno’s parents returned from a European vacation with a 16mm movie that his father had shot of Positano, a beautiful fishing village on the Amalfi coast of Italy. The movie turned his impressionable young mind to research places of beauty, while always reflecting on what was special about them and why people would travel thousands of miles to visit them. This fostered his love of both art and architecture and set his direction in life.
In the years that followed Arno de Villiers has visited many beautiful villages on the globe, selecting unique angles and scenic vistas to sketch and paint in his colorful and graphic postEimpressionistic style. While studying architecture, Arno held his first solo exhibition in South Africa shortly after winning an award in at a New Signatures exhibition. As an architect, based on his insights on village design, he wrote a treatise called “Back to the Village” and subtitled “How to design what people love” which is available to developers on his website villagebuilder.biz Arno lives in Naples, Florida with his wife Ingrid an interior designer, and children Arno jnr. and Christine. He is founder member of a Naples gallery that became Gallery on Fifth and his paintings now grace the walls of homes on three continents!
